ASNA Board Officer-Candidate Nominations are OPEN for President-Elect and Vice President (term effective June 1st)

Good Evening ASNA Members,

Board Officer-Candidate Nominations are open for President-Elect and Vice President. These both are a two-year term and start June 1st, 2024. President-Elect serves as one year as President-Elect, followed by one year as President. Please see below qualification requirements for ASNA office & job descriptions.

The ASNA Board meets monthly by zoom August to May of each school year. Volunteering within ASNA is a rewarding experience, which takes nursing leadership to the next level.  Amazing professional connections are made, not to mention working with a great group of nurses on the ASNA Board and committees.

Please consider joining us and contributing your professional nursing knowledge, leadership, and expertise within ASNA to help support the school nurses of Alaska.

 Electronic Election ballots will be sent by email shortly after the submission deadline for nominations to all active ASNA members to have the opportunity to vote for the next President-Elect and Vice President.

The Alaska School Nurses Association (ASNA) is always looking for school nurses who are interested in leadership and becoming involved in their organization. Please review the qualifications and complete the candidate data form.

Qualifications for ASNA Office:

  1. Be a current Active ASNA/NASN member who is working in the field of school nursing.
  2. Who has been a member of ASNA/NASN for no less than one year immediately prior to nomination.
  3. Be a current Active member of your affiliate association.
  4. ASNA/NASN members may self-nominate by completing the full application packet and click submit. ASNA Candidate Data Form.

ASNA President Elect's Job Description

Title: President Elect

Purpose:  Gain Knowledge and experience about duties and responsibilities of president in preparation for assuming the role of the president. 

Responsibilities:

The President Elect shall:

  1. Gain knowledge and experience about the duties and responsibilities of the president in preparation for assuming the role of the president.
  2. Assist the president with any duties and responsibilities as assistant to the president.
  3. In the absence or inability of the president, perform the duties of the president.

ASNA Vice President's Job Description

 Title: Vice President

 Purpose: To assist the President

Responsibilities:

The Vice President shall: 

  1. In the absence or disability of the President, perform the duties of the President
  2. Perform such other duties as may be required or assigned by the President.
  3. Serve as a leader or member of other committees as assigned by the President.

Other Duties:

  • Collaborate with the board to find district reps for each district and explain to them their role. 
  • Work with the board to find someone to be in charge of the ASNA newsletter. 
  • Work with the board to find someone to manage the ASNA website.
  • Encourage membership.
  • Organize fundraising events to raise money for the association.

ASNA President's Job Description

 Title: President

 Purpose:  To be a leader for the association and conduct all business meetings in an orderly fashion.

 Responsibilities:

The President shall:

  1. Preside at all meetings of the Executive Board, the annual meeting and at all membership meetings.
  2. Appoint such special committees as deemed necessary.
  3. Be an ex-officio member of all committees, except the Membership/Nomination committee.
  4. Perform such other duties as may be required.

 Other Duties:

 Plan agenda for the ASNA meetings and send out to board members prior to the meeting.

  • Collaborate with the board to find district reps for each district and explain to them their role.
  • Assign three members to review the treasurer's books annually. The members need to be from two different districts.
  • Work with the board to find someone to be in charge of the ASNA newsletter.
  • Work with the board to find someone to manage the ASNA website
  • Participate in the NASN President discussion lists, serve on committees within ASNA or other organizations, and stay current on issues related to school nursing and/or student health as needed.
  • Encourage membership.
