About Mindfulness: Evidence-based practice
Mindfulness research shows that in order to improve attention, increase emotional regulation and sense of well-being, you must reduce emotional emergencies and improve empathy and social skills. Adding mindfulness to any setting can cultivate an exceptional learning environment, create positivity, develop compassion, build resiliency, and improve grades in school. Participants will discover the positive impacts of mindfulness, participate in mindful strategies, learn how to access multiple resources, and how to integrate mindfulness into a trauma-sensitive case.
Keynote Speaker:
Wendy DeGraffenried, president and owner of Path of the Heart, Inc. is a school nurse at Wasilla Middle in south-central Alaska. As a dynamic keynote speaker and visionary, DeGraffenried travels the globe teaching Adverse Childhood Experiences, resiliency building, body-brain strategies, and mindfulness practices. As a Trauma-Sensitive School Team leader, DeGraffenried will address Adverse Childhood Experiences and share some key trauma-sensitive mindfulness strategies in helping students to find success socially and academically. Understanding mindfulness techniques and how trauma affects student learning and behavior can be potentially applied to future opportunities in improving the health of Alaskan Native youth, their families, and community.
