Alaska School Nurse presents at Virtual NASN2020 Program.

One of our own, Alaska School Nurse Wendy DeGraffenried is presenting on June 30th at 0715 AST on Framework Ignite as part of a panel at the Virtual NASN2020 Program.

Wendy DeGraffenried, a 13-year school nurse in the Mat-Su Borough School District, is proud to represent Alaska School Nurses through her savvy innovation and preparedness by hitting the frontlines of COVID-19 with distance-delivery school nursing through technology. 

Having learned how to navigate multiple Learning Management Systems from her school librarian, Carrie Day; and with years of practice building Google Classrooms, Google Forms, and Google Documents, Wendy hit the ground running as her school district took off on distance-delivery academics. Inviting all students to Opt-In classroom, Wendy connected with her students through Zoom Gratitude calls, Google Hangout chats, daily gratitude assignments, and a variety of other fun tasks to keep them engaged and connected to their school nurse.

Wendy initiated a national Zoom, "I'm Still Your School Nurse: Building Your Own Online Platform," for nurses all over the country to participate and move themselves into true 21st Century Nursing. Because of this work and where school nursing must go, Wendy is presenting at this year's National Association of School Nurses (NASN) 2020 Virtual Conference to share her experience regarding this innovative approach to continue direct nursing care through an online platform.
