About Honoring Those Who Serve: In the fall of 2020, Eagle River High School Art Teacher Jacob Bera wanted to find a way he and his students could express their thanks to healthcare workers battling on the frontline against COVID-19 after hearing stories of long hours, sacrifice, and great risk. Inspired by the work of artist Steve Derrick, Bera led an ASD venture called Portraits of Those Who Serve: Honoring our Healthcare Workers. Selfies were collected from all over the Municipality and were later displayed at Alaska Native Medical Center, Alaska Regional Hospital and Providence Alaska Medical Center in the spring of 2021. The Anchorage Museum also hosted an online exhibit. This effort continues for the 2021-22 school year.
