First of a Series of three educational offerings for school nurses:
#1 Back to School with Diabetes: Educational offering for school nurses
November 3th, Wednesday 3:30- 4:30 pm
Presenter: Dr. Mishelle Nace, Pediatrician with the State of Alaska School Team and Foundation Health Fairbanks
Basics of diabetes--what it is, how is it treated, and what you might see as a school nurse taking care of kids with diabetes. We will have a mother of an insulin dependent diabetic (who is also a pediatric nurse) to share some great tips regarding the care of children with diabetes in the school system. We will also have Kathy Bell, a school nurse with ASD and diabetes educator available to answer questions. There will be a didactic section and then an open forum to ask questions regarding the care of diabetes in the school day.
Please send any question ahead of time on managing students in school with Diabetes.
We are not able to offer contact hours for this class, but hope to offer more classes in the spring with nursing contact hours.
