New School Nurse Orientation class (30 Free Contact Hours)

Posted over 2 years ago by Annette Johansen

Here is a little more information about the free 30 contact hour class for school nurses.

The New School Nurse Orientation class is available as a self-directed course through AaNA. The textbook is the one we just received at the nurses meeting, School Nursing, A Comprehensive Text. If you have not taken it, I highly recommend this course, as it gets you familiar with a wide range of topics pertinent to school nursing.

Basic skills covered include:

  • Standards of school nursing practice
  • Legal aspects of school nursing including 504's and IEP's
  • Students with mental and physical special health care needs
  • Assessment of students with acute injuries and illnesses
  • Growth and development preschool through adolescence
  • Students with chronic conditions including diabetes, asthma, allergies, seizures, & neurodevelopmental disorders
  • Trauma informed care
  • Management of the school nurse office.
