New, Lowered Rate on Temperament Based Treatment with Support Conference

with Dr. Laura Hill, April 26-28!

Great news! AKEDA is lowering the early bird rate for the 3-day conference on Temperament-Based Treatment with Support (TBT-S). The price is now $100 lower so you can attend 3 days of hands-on training with the internationally renowned Dr. Laura Hill for $550. The savings will almost fully cover the cost of 6 hours of online Level 1 training, which is required for the in-person conference.

Clients consistently report that TBT-S increases their motivation to change and it improve outcomes. This treatment integrates genetic, neurobiological and temperament research into treatment applications to augment current therapies. As such, TBT-S provides clinicians, dietitians, and medical practitioners with a biologically-based framework to apply other treatments.

This conference will provide 18 CEs and be highly interactive. This training can be used to assist adult patients 18+.

Level 2 certification is only provided in person, and this will be the first training of this type in North America. Be at the forefront of the latest evidence-based treatments for patients with eating disorders. Click for more information and to register.

Eating Disorders Awareness Week: It's Time for Change

Feb. 20-26, 2023

Now is the time for more: more equity, inclusion, access, outreach, early-intervention, education, representation, advocacy, and awareness. In honor of Eating Disorders Awareness Week, AKEDA is bringing awareness of eating disorders, especially among athletes. Showings of Winning at All Costs: Breaking the Silence on Eating Disorders can be seen on KAKM on Feb. 20 at 10 p.m. and at the Bear Tooth Theatrepub on Feb. 23 at 5:30 p.m. with a panel discussion.

AKEDA is also joining with the Collaborative of Eating Disorders Organizations on speaking out against the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAC)'s guidelines. We do not support intentional weight loss in children via the methods included in the guidelines, especially the recommendation of bariatric surgery and pharmaceutical products for children. Click here for a Medical Provider Resource that provides helpful information for providers and parents on screening for eating disorders and using weight-neutral language when discussing concerns.

For Your Clients:Emotion Focused Family Therapy (EFFT) Workshop for Parents & Caregivers

March 31-April 1

Do you work with parents or caregivers of loved ones experiencing eating disorders? This 2-day skills based course is designed to help parents learn how to more effectively connect and communicate with their loved one, improve their ability to provide support during difficult situations (i.e. during meal support, handling social issues, addressing body image distress, etc.), and help their loved one navigate big feelings.

We know that caregivers don't cause eating disorders and related issues, and in fact are the best resource for a loved one's recovery. What parents need are support, some skills, and coaching. When AKEDA offered a 1-day EFFT workshop for parents in 2021, it was highly attended and many parents requested a longer training.

Melissa O'Neill, Ph.D. will offer this virtual workshop on Friday, March 31st and Saturday, April 1st from 9 AM - 4 PM AKT. Please note: Only 16 seats are available to assure that each participant gets individualized attention. Alaska families are prioritized with registration open to Alaska families through March 7. Please share this link!
