Dear Community Partner,

We are reaching out to notify you of an upcoming grant opportunity that RurAL CAP will administer for projects that improve access to the conditions and resources that promote health and support the goals of the Alaska Healthy and Equitable Communities Strategic Plan. The Thriving Communities Grant Program is made available with funding provided by the State of Alaska Department of Health COVID-19 Health Equity grant. A grant application and guidelines will be released on May 1, open through June 16, 2023, for awards ranging from $5,000 to $250,000. Funds will be administered by July 1, 2023, and must be spent down by May 31, 2024.

RurAL CAP seeks grant proposals from eligible organizations for projects in the following categories: Physical Health, Mental Health, Education, Health Care Access, Food Security, & Housing Access. Eligible organizations include Tribes, 501(c)(3) nonprofits, schools, faith-based organizations, and local government agencies and programs in the State of Alaska. Eligible projects will encompass a diverse range of approaches; however, it is important to note that construction is not an allowable expense. To best serve the diverse needs of Alaska communities, RurAL CAP employs an expansive definition of “health” including social determinants of health as defined by the CDC.

RurAL CAP will also hire several part-time Rural Community Technical Assistance Specialists in rural communities to provide training and technical assistance for the application and implementation of these grant awards. As well as providing culturally relevant, localized assistance to Tribes and organizations interested in Thriving Communities Grants, these positions also offer an opportunity for workforce development in rural Alaska communities. TA Specialists will receive a high level of supervisory support and ample opportunities for professional development.

Please share information about these upcoming grant and employment opportunities with your network. The attached flier includes the important bullet points and contact information. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to our team at grants@ruralcap.org.

Thank you for your support!
