Happy National School Nurse Day!
In 1902 Lillian Wald documented that school nurses had an impact on decreasing communicable diseases and improving school attendance. Today school nurses remain at the forefront of public health concerns of a different kind that also create a barrier to attendance for our students.
As school nurses, we are trying to recover from the COVID years. Mental health concerns are at an all-time high. Health disparities are becoming more apparent. Societal disruption flows over into our schools. Our roles encompass physical and mental health care access and support so that our students can be in school and ready to learn.
On School Nurse Day 2023, we recognize the positive impact you have had on your school communities. As nurses, it is natural for us to care for others, but please be sure that you are caring for yourself as well.
