NASN School Work Force Survery
Posted about 9 hours ago by Sonja Mack
Good Evening ASNA Members,

Please Consider Completing NASN’s 2025 School Nurse Workforce Survey. See below Details.
The School Nurse Workforce Survey aims to build a nationally comprehensive, evidence-based understanding of the school nurse workforce. By collecting national data on education, credentialing, responsibilities, and workforce experiences, this survey will help the National Association of School Nurses (NASN) and partners advocate for greater support, visibility, and resources for school nurses.
Survey Design
This survey was developed in collaboration with school nurses.
- Co-designed with school nurses and NASN leadership
- Pilot tested by school nurses
- Cognitive interviews conducted with school nurses across multiple states while they completed the survey to assess reliability, validity, and relevance
Eligibility
- Hold an active nursing license
- Provide school nursing services in a school setting (e.g., school building or school-based health center)
Survey Content
The survey takes up to 25-30 minutes to complete, either online or on paper, and includes five sections:
- Licensure, Education, and Current Role (25 questions)
- Delivery of Care (15–25 questions)
- School Funding (7 questions)
- Workforce Experiences (6 questions)
- Demographics (7 questions)
All responses are confidential. Individual school nurses will never be identified, and results will be reported in aggregate at the national, state, or regional level, or by geographic classification (e.g., urban/rural), and always at or above the state level.
Survey findings will help NASN and partners:
- Describe the current landscape of the school nurse workforce nationally
- Identify gaps in support, training, and resources
- Inform policy and advocacy efforts at state and national levels
- Support future workforce development initiatives
