ASNA Member Spotlight: Celebrating Dr. Ashley Sapp, DNP, MSN-PH, RN, NCSN!
The Alaska School Nurses Association is thrilled to announce that our colleague and ASNA member, Ashley Sapp, has successfully obtained her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) with a specialty in Professional Leadership from Post University.
Achieving a doctoral degree is a monumental task, and Dr. Sapp did so while continuing her vital work as the school nurse at Campbell STEM Elementary School within the Anchorage School District. Please join us in celebrating this incredible milestone!
Bridging the Gap in Student Care
Dr. Sapp’s doctoral research focused on a critical area of modern school nursing: Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM). By enhancing school nurses' knowledge of CAM, her research demonstrated a significant improvement in beliefs and attitudes toward these practices. Her work helps:
- Decrease Stigma: Opening the door for more honest health dialogues.
- Increase Cultural Sensitivity: Ensuring families from all backgrounds feel respected and understood.
- Improve Student Outcomes: Providing more holistic, patient-centered care within our schools.
A Journey Supported by NASN
Ashley was a proud recipient of one of the NASN Endowment Education Scholarships. This support is available to members looking to further their education and make an impact on the school nursing profession.
Mark Your Calendars: Applications for the next round of NASN Endowment Education Scholarships open on August 15th. You can find more details on the NASN website here.
A Familiar Face
Many of you will remember Dr. Jarussi & Dr. Sapp’s insightful presentation, “A School Nurse Journey to Advanced Practice,” at our 2024 ASNA Spring Conference. We also want to thank those of you who participated in her DNP project survey—your collaboration was a key part of this success!
